Hold on, I've got the perfect song for this: https://youtu.be/L6BDtASMLAI?si=ESGn0hUiJv3Hmrwd
I'm not convinced Taran cares all that much. He completely disregarded the life value of a "chicken", a quezt hatchling is probably just a step above that as far as he's concerned.
Since they're both assholes, I really hope they beat the everloving crap out of eachother, such that whoever wins will feel like their victory was pyrrhic.

He actually cares a great deal. The whole reason he blasted the Ave assistant was because the majordomo was telling his sister to do something she (quetz!Brand) didn't want to do. His entire speech amounted to, "Try and force my lil' sis to do something, face my wrath." He showed up because Suzokon-kyō had destroyed the rescue party.
He tried to whack quetz!Brand (nonlethally?) because he was sure "Saida" was Suzocon. Nope. And when the actual Suzocon showed himself, he unleashed hell on him, presumably to try and save his sister.
I suspect he's going to grab quetz!Brand at some point and head home, thinking he just rescued his sister. Because he's a muscle-brained moron. He may not think much of slaves, but his sister is a whole other story.

That's one outcome I've been pondering in this arc, that quetz!Brand gets taken back home, and it's up to vdragon!Saida and whatever's left of Roko to come to their rescue. Probably after the eyestone gets enough of a charge to do one last thing, whatever that may be. I don't expect Saida and Brand to switch back to their original bodies, they've become well adapted to their new 'sonas, since both are accomplishing things that the other couldn't "while normal".
I think they'll eventually switch back. They don't want to just abandon their families.
My guess (and it is only a guess?) Eventually Vetra and Taran will be defeated and Saida will take over for the quetz, and be a far, far more benign leader.
Brand will resume his life with the Diggers, but without Vetra to constantly extort them, he'll finally get a few real gems for his hoard... and be bound and determined to never become a monster. He'll forever be a volcano dragon, but one thing about volcanic eruptions... The minerals from volcanic ash make for the richest fertilizer on the planet.
He and Saida will forever be fire-forged friends and allies. And the peoples of this world will finally know some peace and prosperity.
A pleasant and happy ending, but who knows if I'm right. It's just a nice thought.
