Hirschsprung Disease is a rare birth defect in babies where part of the large intestine is unable to remove waste materials properly, which can lead to intestinal blockage in the newborn. This 3D animation shows how doctors can correct Hirschsprung Disease in an infant by removing sections of the large intestine or colon. Before surgery, it is important to irrigate the intestine with water so the stool will not become blocked, causing painful gas bloating in the baby.

My baby boy has hirschsprugs. It has not been a easy road he was diagnosed a couple months ago. He had a colostomy done a month ago and today we were told he his ready for his pull through surgery. He will be turning 1 on April 3. It's so sad and not fair that babies have to go through this. But parents don't let the doctors turn you away and make you feel like your crazy if you feel like your child is having this symptoms ask your doctor for a biopsy. It took us 9 months of ER visits till a doctor finally listened to us. Stay strong and keep fighting
Simdi nasil bebebiniz bizede bu hastalik konuldu ameliyyat olduq amma duzelmeyib siz kac sure mucadele etdiniz bu hastalikla

How's your child now?
Plz tell me about ur child now condition. My baby 4 year done rectal surgery but stil same condition. How much surgery u hv done u baby plz reply
@@saminaiftikhar3671 since his pull thru surgery he has had no other issues. He is now 8 years old. The last time he was in the hospital was when he was 1. He is doing great now.
My son went 11 yrs of his life dealing with constipation issues that got worse over time. We went to several GI docs before they finally diagnosed my son with hirshprungs. He almost died from entercoloitis in the hospital. He had to get a colostomy for 7 mths of his life and a foot of instestine removed. he just had his pull through a month ago and had to spend the whole month in the hospital. Because of complications. This disease is nothing to play with. I wish i had heard of it when he was a baby i would have made them do a biopsy then!
Well this is terrifying to read, considering my baby girl will be getting a biopsy done tm for hirschsprungs. I am so scared for her.
How he is ?it's every thing alright for your son?
I'm 21 with this disease. I have been able to live a great life thus far. I am now at college with no issues at this time. I can only pray for people that have to deal with repercussions of this disease. I am proof things can work out.
I had this as a baby wouldn't know other then scars but my scars are much bigger are yours like this video?
@@stevenlindhorst7579 I have one insertion line right off the left side of my belly button (About 5 to 6 inches large). It looks like the start of an abdominal muscle, it's pretty big. As a baby, my parents told me the scar wrapped around the whole side of my body.
@@Dom-jv6nk sounds like mine but I have 2...do you have any side effects at all?
@@stevenlindhorst7579 No side effects as we speak right now. Starting understand the reasons why I was the way I was younger (mean) because I was in pain from the surgery and I guess I have more mental side effects rather than physical. I do have fairly bad heartburn but I manage that by staying away from foods that cause it such as chocolate, oily food such as any kind of chips; taco meat; etc, spicy foods (although i love spicy foods), bananas, ice cream. I guess am a little lactose intolerant but that's because I wasn't able to eat much of anything with milk in it as a child. I really grew up on rice and chicken and that still one of my staple foods I eat almost everyday. I use lawry salt to give the rice and chicken flavor. I do not handle alcohol well that also gives me much heartburn. What side effects do you encounter if any?
@@Dom-jv6nk no side effects only thing is iv Never been able to gain weight always wondered if it was absorption issues
I am 42 years old, I had Hirschprung in my childhood, this had a similar surgery but that was back in the 80s there wasn’t laser surgery. Thanks to God, my mother who took me to the hospital almost everyday for two years ! and the doctors, I have a normal life now. At the age, of 22 I realized my large intestine didn’t feel comfortable digesting red meat so I quitted that and now I’m vegetarian and don’t have any constipation problems at all, after suffering 22 years of constant constipation. I guess faith, early diagnosis, the surgery and quitting meat helped me to have a normal life. God is amazing!
Thank you for this video - I had this surgery when I was a baby (1982) and it's interesting to see this as an adult.

Love your videos💕 keep up the great work❤❤

Nearly 50 years ago, I was a baby having to go through this procedure - also had a colostomy - in total I had 4 major operations. The lifelong aftermath is that I cannot digest any red meat or poultry fat. I'm also Galactosemic from birth. This is a good illustration of the major procedure. Well done.
I’m 24, when I was younger I could go to the bathroom. As I’ve gotten older, it’s gotten harder for me to use the bathroom. Basically, I pass stool only once a week (sometimes one and a half weeks) which I’ve tried fiber, laxatives, drinking more water, etc. Nothing has helped.. it’s gotten worse so now I’m having to make an appointment to see a GI doctor. I was in the bathroom two weeks ago due to a partial intestinal blockage. The pain from the blockage was indescribable. I was absolutely paralyzed from how bad it hurt, I almost fainted on the floor and I was sweating so bad and I even vomited from the pain. It has been terrifying, because I know what not passing stool can do, it can kill o you. I don’t really want surgery but I can’t live the rest of my life with the fear and worries of a blockage.
I'm 21, seems like we have the same situation I had my first surgery when i was 1 but i still had bowel complications. I told this to my parents but they said it has something to do about changing my lifestyle. Well i did at some point, but i still had these complications. I was hoping they had to say yes for a second surgery but they're against it and seem to avoid the topic when I bring it up. I only pray that we'll get through this tough situation 🙏
Thanks a lot your video helping me very well... Thanks again
Thank you . good luck 😊

This is an amazing video!

Wouldn't be painful for the baby to remove waste after surgery?
what do they do if the whole large intestine dose not have ganglion cells?
Extremely rare ... the child will probably die at days age!!
that`s sad :(
Sometimes, the entire digestive system doesn't have ganglion cells
Not all of them die. they can also have surgical treatment where the small intestine is modified to serve as a rectum. It is however more challenging.
Then the patient would have what is called a procolectomy which is the procedure to remove the entire large intestine (colon) and then the patient will have a stomach created through hair small intestine and therefore have an Latin bag put in place for the ear of their life.
Really a helpful video.
Thank you so mush for posting these stuff its really usefull it helps me with the medicine field!
Great video! In some cases Hirschprung's can affect the small intestine as well. In my case I was born with 6" of functional small intestine with everything following that lacking ganglion cells.
How are doing now sir?
@@sanjeevateja Doing well. I had a liver and small bowel transplant 23 years ago, so things have been pretty stable since then.
@@danheneise great sir.. Do you know any one with hirschsprung disease of above 20 years? What are the challenges they are facing?
@@sanjeevateja Yes, if you're on Facebook, checkout the Hirschprung's groups on there like this one: facebook.com/groups/142815342419165/about . There are a good number of 20+ people on there with Hirschprung's. Their current situation varies quite a lot depending on how much of their gut was affected.

How are feeling now, my baby is 1 1/2 years old, I’m very stressed, how old are you now? are you having in pain or side effects? Hope you can reply with good news.
@@abujameel98 plz tell me after surgery child can better?
wow.. genius way to fix it...
when the entire large intestine is affected by hirschsprung disease this method wont work i think? what do they do then? pull out the entire large intestine?
I would assume a colostomy bag would be placed at that point. A patient who lacks motility in only the left upper quadrant of his large intestine (around where it bends) for instance- would need laxatives daily and enemas to manage the motility and keep the poop moving though. However, if it were to get worse, the next step would be a procedure in which they would resect only the section that lacks motility- and reconnect the healthy colon on each side to create a whole functioning colon. It is risky due to the risk of the colon rejecting itself causing the colon to rapidly die - which would be way worse than just a section lacking motility (the nerves to contract and move poop through) It’s a tricky situation.
Yes, a procolectomy would be performed and the patient would have a ileostomy bag for the rest of their life.
I like to learn stuff like this

zap cannon I'm 24 and I hear ya! All of the missed school, surgeries, doctor visits, everything. It's a real mess. I had my first surgery for Hirschsprung's at 11 hours old. After my pull through and everything, the scar I have from it is pretty big and it almost looks like a c-section scar. Since I'm kinda chubby, it sections my tummy and I'm extremely self conscious of it.
Doctors have said to drink mineral oil mixed with apple juice and I don't really remember if that even worked, and I've even been told I'd need to take laxatives every day for the rest of my life. Maybe I'll try those Metamucil cookies, that sounds like a fun way to get fiber :P
zap cannon I have hirschbrungs too and I am eleven. When I was born I had to stay in the hospital for 9 months, until I went home with a colostomy bag for 3 years. I'm ok now but I still have throwing up issues its most likely acid reflexes.
