If you really were an elitist you wouldn't like anything after AJFA. The black album heavily went towards mainstream metal which is good because more people (non metalheads) would give it a chance. People keep saying they sold out. That shit started with MOP, believe it or not. They were actually implying Metallica sold out on MOP because there were acoustic and melodic parts in it. Lastly, St. Anger is a rough listen I'll give you that. Death Magnetic and Hardwired to self-destruct were excellent, especially the latter felt like a best of from all their styles over the years.

Hi Jennifer, now that your ears are open, you should check out some more...i would suggest for you, the ballad "Nothing Else Matters" next, and then after you've enjoyed that you can move on to "Fade to Black". By then you will be a Metallica fan, and you will have 5 decades of Metallica songs to check out. Metallica fans will never hate on someone embracing our band...we want you to love them just as much as we do. Love your honesty regardless.
I grew up with many types of music from my older siblings, so I have always been eclectic in my musical tastes, but I don't like everything I hear. When it comes to a new band/artist, I try to keep to a simple enough system, don't give up if you don't like the first song you hear. I try to listen to 3 songs before I make up my mind, if I find the first song a bit off. I cannot say that I have always used this rule, but most of the time, and while I do not like every song I hear or every band/artist, I have heard so much awesome music, it is difficult to remember it all. FAR more good than bad. Just try to keep an open mind and be fair to a new sound.
My late dad was not a Metallica fan, but I will always think of him when I hear this song. The day we was diagnosed with .deadly cancer, when I got into my car and turned om the radio, they played this song. Sad But True! I fucking turned up the volume and did some real head banging with tears in my eyes.
The Black Album and Ride the Lightning changed my life! I was in high school and going through some serious health issues and a dark depression washed over me and these 2 albums helped me get through it. I will always live Metallica until the day I die! 🤘🤘

Their early stuff was cover music and then they had some really heavy stuff. This album is pretty heavy and I think it's the very epitome of heavy metal and hard rock, fused together in an epic way.
Yeah they were great then slid away slowly after this album there are still hidden gems in each album since but few and far between. Broken, beat and scarred is one that i think is brilliant that went unnoticed.
In a way, though, this is the album that marks the turn to going more corporate. I’d say Master is peak Metallica (though for nostalgic reasons Lightning is my personal favorite.)
James Hatfield has been very clear that this song is about addiction and spirits being awakened inside. He has dealt with alcohol and addiction for many decades.
Lars, James and the rest, have my respect. They gave an identity and hope to many a teen. From gearheads to clean cut college kids, Metallica found a big audience. As trite as the black Tshirt, and the how evil can we sound bit was, musically they topped the genre.

So everyone thinks the person is controlling the puppet but actually it's the tiger way around.

One of the great things about Metallica reactions is that they never copyright strike. They are one of the rare bands that own their own music catalog, so you don’t have a record company or a third party hired by the record company to go after channels on RUclips. This song contains one of Metallica's most massive riffs of all time! Not a fast, thrashy song, like Metallica fans were used to at the time, but crushing none the less! This album will forever be a turning point for the creativity of the metal genre.
I’m not a big fan of the black album but this is one song I’d recommend to anyone unfamiliar with Metallica. It’s sums up their essence succinctly in one song and it’s catchy as hell.
Man Lars Ulrich's Drumming was so damn good here. He may not be the fanciest drummer in the world but he is simple and very effective. Just like the old saying goes "Less is More"

Sad but True keeping the "Heavy" in Heavy Metal. I knew this song would be non-stop "Stank Face Maximus" for you, just like it was for me in Aug. '91 when I first heard it. Lyrics so well written they can apply to a vast array of unfortunate realities in life.

I listened to Metallica A LOT during my most severe depression years. The lyrics spoke to me from my interpretation of what I was going through at the time. My whole 20's was really bad.

One of the great things about Metallica reactions is that they never copyright strike. They are one of the rare bands that own their own music catalog, so you don’t have a record company or a third party hired by the record company to go after channels on RUclips. I don’t think I’ve seen a single takedown or copyright strike on a Metallica reaction. I could be wrong, but I’ve seen a ton of Metallica reactions and none have ever been blocked to struck.
Great seeing this live in concert! June 27th, 1992 at The Castle in Charlevoix. Standing on the middle 3rd row bench that eventually became "The Mosh Pit!" Metallica puts on a great live show, they are the Titans of Heavy Metal, and I've been fortunate to see them a number of times.

This song contains one of Metallica's most massive riffs of all time! Not a fast, thrashy song, like Metallica fans were used to at the time, but crushing none the less! This album will forever be a turning point for the creativity of the metal genre.

Yeah. when I was a kid I always thought it was about an abusive relationship, and then later about depression and substance abuse.
I’m not a big fan of the black album but this is one song I’d recommend to anyone unfamiliar with Metallica.
It’s sums up their essence succinctly in one song and it’s catchy as hell.
Man Lars Ulrich's Drumming was so damn good here. He may not be the fanciest drummer in the world but he is simple and very effective. Just like the old saying goes "Less is More"
Truth is, as much shit as he gets, I can't imagine Metallica having any other drummer than Lars.

The snare and kick drums are so distinctive. You can hear them in a loud bar and automatically know that Metallica is on the jukebox
@@BATTIS94 He has sadly deteriorated a lot over the years. His time is terrible, he can't remember his own songs and it looks like he's thinking of something else half the time. Doesn't take away the fact that his drumming is fantastic on these early albums, though.

100 years later (1991), metal band Metallica released 'The God that Failed' as the first radio-played song from their 'Black' Album.
In 1988 a A SciFi film was released titled 'Alien Nation' featuring a 'Newcomer' named 'Rudyard Kipling'.
Another 'Black' album favorite, 'Sad But True', if lyrically followed, seems to have a theme of 'Alienation'.
I learned all of this searching the origins of the phrase "bite the bullet".
The actor who portrayed 'Rudyard' in the James Caan "E.T.PD" flick, that man earlier played 'Rafterman' in Kubrick's 'Full Metal Jacket'.
In a (literally) pivotal scene, Gomer Pyle almost literally, 'Bites the Bullet' using a 'Full Metal Jacket'.
