You should rewatch something because you enjoy it and want to relive the story, MAL stats be damned

MAL isn't too good for what it's supposed to do.
I use MAL for searching for animes, that's it.
I have a complex chronological excel file that does a better job at counting animes, rewatches, etc

Another thing MAL lacks is the idea of franchise. 1 entry can be 600 episodes or an OVA...

Isn't enjoyment the point of rewatching anyway? If the only thing you care about are numbers, then add 10 long running shonens. It will pump those numbers up in no time.

It is unfair that everyone is harsh on op because of his mentality with stats whereas many others are in the same boat. Others are also obsessed with the number of completed anime or keeping the number of dropped anime to zero.He is just obsessed with a different unit than others that's all.
Back to the topic, episode count does increase on your rewatch actually.

The point of watching anime is for personal enjoyment. Not to increase your anime watched count on MAL. MAL is only there to help you keep track of what you watched.

Because for many of us, rewatching is about reliving the enjoyment of watching one of our favorite anime series/ movies, and not about raising some pointless, arbitrary number which we have no real end-goal for because MAL isn't a contest.

It does.

Plus, not everyone cares about the episode/days watched stats. I don't really care about that stat and don't even make any rewatch entries on the rare occasion that I actually rewatch anime.

-For enjoyment because I like it and haven't seen it in a while

-To satisfy my own curiosity about some detail in the show I've forgotten that's been bugging me

-Because sometimes the plot is so complex you don't understand it's subtleties with just a single viewing and you find new details you didn't notice last time that improve the experience

-Because picking something from my collection to watch off my shelves is sometimes faster than turning on my computer, signing in, firing up the internet, opening MAL to view my PTW list, and searching through the ass crack of the internet to find some obscure title.

You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.

I wake up with coffee & anime, I go to sleep with coffee & anime.

however I do find the clips if I want to rewatch a certain part of an anime such as the funny moment or certain fights etc
it gets back the nostalgic feelings which is different from the ones you obtained when you are watching
as for stats I do not care at all I can even add or remove them randomly as I want to

What I meant is that myanimelist is an incomplete tool for keeping track on what you've watched. The only thing it does is remembering which animes you've watched, and the score you gave them.

Personally I have an excel file listing every anime I've watched in chronological order, with stats for each year (total number of episodes, of new franchises, average score...), with a color code allowing visually to detect easily my favorite animes (10 and 9 = Gold, 8 = Silver), it also show the rewatches. This allows you to have a global view of your anime "journey", your evolution in taste, etc.

Also, myanimelist don't put together the parts of the same franchise: so in your MAL list, 1 OVA takes as much place as a season of 25 episodes. I think it's dumb.

Basically, myanimelist just gives you a raw list of every single thing you've watched, but these datas aren't put in an ergonomic form.

You can do chronological order on MAL and it already does rewatches, or do you mean just in a better detailed way? + There is also MAL Graph.
